bench is a great thing to include in your garden if you know how
to properly take care of it. If you do not take care of it, the bench
could seriously detract from the overall beauty of your yard.
So, in order to keep things clean and beautiful, you should follow
these steps:
• Remove all rubber tips and cushions if there are any. Doing
this will help you to make sure that you don’t do something
to a piece of the furniture that you don’t really need or want
to clean or refurbish.
• Wash the bench with a mild detergent. You also will probably
want some kind of a rag or scrub brush to make sure that you are cleaning
deep enough and well enough. After you have finished scrubbing, do
not forget to rinse off all the soap or any other residue that may
be left behind.
• Get a wire brush and vigorously scrub off any loose paint
chips or rust that can (and has been) eroding your chair.
• Look carefully to see if the paint on the bench has bubbled
up anywhere. If it has, that means that probably there is some rust
beneath the surface of the paint. You should use a screwdriver or
some kind of a chisel to break away the bubble and chip at the bubbled
paint. You then will want to scrape it up with a wire brush.
• If this does not do the job, you may need to get a kind of
commercial rust remover and remove the rust that way.
• Now it is time to refurbish. You should paint the metal garden
bench or spray paint with a rust-resistant paint. Doing this will
help, but if the bench is very corroded, you may want to prime the
bench first with a rust-resistant primer.
• Take some time to let it dry. Depending on the thickness of
the coat, each coat should take between 12-24 hours to dry. If you
do not wait the proper amount of time, you run the risk of having
to start the process all over from the beginning.
• Replace the rubber tips and cushions that you may have removed
at the beginning of the refurbishing process.
Following these steps will make your metal garden bench look like
new. But if you still don’t like the way it looks afterward,
then you may want to consider purchasing a new bench.
