When
shopping for garden furniture and trying to decide whether or not
wrought iron
outdoor furniture is the right type for you, be sure to keep
these things in mind:
• Cost – wrought iron outdoor furniture sets can be
found for less than the price of teak furniture, but it is going
to cost you more than plastic furniture. For the most part (although
there are exceptions to the rule), the more the furniture costs
– wrought iron outdoor furniture or otherwise – the
better quality it is.
• Comfort – make sure that you try out the wrought iron
outdoor furniture before you buy it. Make sure that the chairs are
ones that you will want to spend hours sitting in, watching the
sun set, reading a book, or chatting with friends. Consider adding
cushions. Make sure that the wrought iron outdoor furniture is sturdy
before you purchase it.
• Maintenance – some furniture is going to require more
maintenance than others. With wrought iron outdoor furniture, the
maintenance is relatively simple. Just wash it with mild soapy water
(and then dry) it relatively regularly. Get in the habit of wiping
it down with a dry cloth every time you use it. Watch out for areas
where the coating is coming off and repaint these areas with touch-up
paint (if you do not have any, go to a hardware store and ask what
you should use.) Be sure to sand off and wipe up any rust before
you paint.
• Finish – be sure that your wrought iron outdoor furniture
is coated with rust retardant or a powder finish. If you cannot
tell by the label, be sure to ask a store representative.
• Winter – wrought iron outdoor furniture is a bit heavier
than many types of garden furniture, so it may be more difficult
to move to storage come inclement weather. However, using garden
furniture covers can really help prolong the life of your wrought
iron outdoor furniture.
• Placement – because wrought iron outdoor furniture
is relatively heavy, it is good for windy areas. Again, though,
it is more difficult to move around if you ever want to change its
placement.
When shopping for wrought iron outdoor furniture and other garden
furniture, be sure to keep all of the above notes in mind.
